It’s About Time!

Warm up complete!  Captain Harold just told me that the gators are out sunning again!  WHEW.  Can I tell you how happy this makes us?  Life is good on the airboat again.

I will not mention the “cool” weather we had again, as it is over, done, finished.  I will share one funny story with you though… we Floridians try to protect our fragile tropical plants by putting sheets and blankets over them when it’s chilly.  Some of our passengers from Canada thought it was just our “unique” way of hanging our laundry out to dry!

Warmth.  Sunshine.  Normal temperatures.  Highs in the 70s in January.  Life is good!

Finally – A Weather Warm Up!

I’m so happy to let you know that the record number of cold days here in Central Florida is coming to an end.  Yes, that’s right, this week temperatures will be gradually warming making for really nice airboat ride weather right through the weekend!

While we Floridians have been piling on the blankets, alligators find ways to cope with the cooler weather too.  Most of the time, they burrow into the mud along the shoreline for warmth and their metabolism actually slows down, so they breathe less.  They can seem to disappear for a few days, but they don’t often say “undercover” for very long.

We’re certainly keeping our fingers crossed that this week the gators decide to come out and enjoy the warm Florida sunshine!

Oh Baby it’s Cold Outside!

Yes siree, it’s a bit nippy here in the Sunshine State today.  We hardy ever get daytime temperatures staying in the low 50’s, but today’s one of those days.  Plus it’s windy.  Real windy.

Cold plus wind equals wind-chill.  (If you’re from the north, you’d probably say it’s “cool”.)   Wind-chill plus riding an airboat equals really chilly.

This freakish cold is the top story on all of our TV stations.  We Floridians are wimps when it comes to cold.  I have on long underwear, topped with polar fleece.  I’m typing my blog in fingerless gloves.  And I’m INSIDE the office.  Go ahead and laugh!

So obviously the phone isn’t ringing today.  I think even our northern visitors think it’s too cold (cool) to airboat.  I think they may be right!  So Captain Harold and I will spend the day catching up on our “to-do” list.  We’ve been crazy busy through the holidays, so we need to get caught up.

I’ll be writing new web site copy, and he’ll be getting some routine maintenance done.  What an exciting glimpsed behind the scenes of an airboat business for you!
